Indian Farm Box CSA

The Vegetables that are available in Indian Grocery Stores do not come from India. They are largely grown in Central America to keep the prices low.
These vegetables are harvested weeks earlier before the vegetables have reached their prime so that they can last the long journey.
This generally causes a lack of taste. Moreover, the hybrid seed varieties are selected for durability at the expense of flavor. The treatments mandated to kill pests can further degrade flavor or texture. It might seem logical that older produce is also less nutritious and lasts less. It also spoils easier and earlier due to the preservation techniques used.
The larger problem is of the use of fertilizers and pesticides in growing these vegetables in large scale commercial farms. Studies after studies have shown the harmful health effects on us and our family.
None of the Indian Vegetables available in Indian Grocery Stores are Organic. All imported vegetables need to be either fumigated or irradiated for US Customs, both of which are not allowed in Organic standards.
Understanding this problem, we at Gopal Farm have selected heirloom (ancient) seed varieties directly from farmers in India with a focus on taste and originality.
Then we grow them in our NY farm using better than Organic practices. We use a combination of ancient Indian Agriculture techniques as well as modern implements and knowledge.
These vegetables are then picked when they are just ripe, largely only a day before they are delivered to you (you could even come and pick them up yourself!).
Previous year's CSA box receivers consistently list taste and nutrition as the most important reason to continue to source their weekly Indian Vegetables from us. Second is for children's health by sourcing their Organic Indian vegetables from a local farm. Third is the convenience of home deliveries.

Organic Grass-Fed A2 Ethical Milk (Optional)
Our cows are grass-fed on our pastures. They are tested as A2/A2. We have mostly heritage breeds - Guernseys, Dutch Belted and Brown Swiss. None of these cows or their offsprings will ever be slaughtered. We save 10% of all their milk sales in a Cows Retirement Savings account to be used for their old age. They are loved as our family. These are happy cows hence their milk is a premium healthful creamy offering.
You may subscribe for the weekly Milk Box. We will ship milk cartons, for an added packing and shipping fee, in a refrigerated box along with the Indian Farm Box. You may also like to pickup Raw Milk from the farm directly for no extra cost. But due to NY regulations, we have to pasteurize it to ship it out of the farm. So we do low temperature pasteurization which is the least intrusive to the milk structure and nutrition. We do not homogenize.
3. Organic Farm Fresh Fruit Box (Optional): A fruit box can also be ordered. We have planted lots of different kind of berries, and nuts. We source Organic Apples, Pears, Plums, and a few other local fruits that are in season from a couple of neighboring farms. We have also partnered with a couple of small Organic Fruit growers in Florida for more tropical fruits that cannot grow in NY like - Organic Mangoes, Organic Sapota, Organic Guava, Organic Oranges, Organic Bananas, Organic Lichie, etc. as per the season.
You would be able to see the seasonal availability in the shop weekly and thus order there.
Pick-Up/Delivery: We ship your CSA Box share, directly to your home for a nominal shipping fee each week. Or you could come with your family to the farm, have a picnic, learn about farming, and pick up your farm box yourself for no shipping cost. New York City residents could pick up from our Friday booth @Union Square Farmers Market (June-Nov).

The Summer'19 season was for 20 weeks between July 1st and Nov 11th.
For the 2020 season we have expanded our service to 35 weeks after feedback from 2019 CSA members as everyone wants organic vegetables and fruits throughout the year.
Our 2020 season will be from Mid-April to Mid-December. We can accommodate 250 member shares in 2020.
In colder months, we will be growing the greens in geothermal heated greenhouses. We have also partnered with an Organic Farm in Florida to grow Organic Vegetables and Fruits for the beginning and end season months when it is too cold here in NY to grow warm weather Indian Vegetables. With our contracted truck, we are able to bring the harvested vegetables from our FL farm within 2 days to our NY farm keeping the flavor and freshness intact.
Order bulk Organic Indian Vegetables when seasonal abundance permits. For a family gathering or any other event, you may order in bulk. You may contact us for availability and bulk pricing.
If you need further information, please contact us. We are dependent on your feedback and involvement for improvements.
